Meet Nic

Hi, I’m Nic Milner – the face behind Nic’s Gutters and your local expert in all the specialist external cleaning services that keep your property looking its best.

You might know me from my years running Abbey Window Cleaning, my long-standing and award-winning family business, though my journey in cleaning started even earlier. Driving around with my dad, knocking on doors collecting customer payments after school. Cleaning has been part of my life since day one and I’ve never looked back.

Over the years I worked my way up through the family business, learning every aspect of the trade. I took the next step by buying the company which now proudly delivers thousands of cleans across Chester and beyond.

In 2025, I made the decision to launch something new – Nic’s Gutters – a business that reflects the parts of exterior cleaning I’m truly passionate about. The services I love. The details that make a real difference.

Why I Started Nic’s Gutters

Window cleaning gave me my foundation but over the years, I’ve developed a real passion for the other side of external cleaning. The nitty-gritty stuff: clearing blocked gutters, restoring roofs, reviving soffits and fascias and helping homeowners protect and maintain their properties.

These were always part of what we did at Abbey but I wanted to bring them to the forefront and build a separate business focused solely on delivering those more specialised, satisfying services.

After the best part of two decades in my successful family business, I felt ready for a new chapter. Something that was entirely mine. I wanted to create something from scratch that reflects the way I like to work.

Nic’s Gutters is my own, personal venture, built from the ground up yet shaped by my experience and driven by the same values that helped grow my other business.

It’s something I’m proud of, a fresh focus and a name of my own. A clean slate (literally!) where I can show what I do best with full control over the quality and care that goes into every job.

I’ve travelled abroad to attend cleaning expos and regularly attend trade shows so I’m constantly learning and evolving.

My Experience & Qualifications

There’s not much I haven’t cleaned.

From small terraced homes to large commercial contracts, my work has taken me across:

• Homes and communal buildings
• Hotels, factories, churches and restaurants
• Football stadiums, racecourses
• Care homes and medical centres
• Cinemas, car showrooms, banks, office buildings

Some of my proud moments:

• Placed 4th in a World Record attempt in the 2024 Window Cleaning World Cup against “Turbo Terry Burrows”
• Multiple awards for service, business excellence and customer care
• Hundreds of 5-star reviews across Google, Facebook, Yell and Checkatrade
• Recognised by Three Best Rated for 5 years running

I have certification, membership and accreditations with the following bodies:

IOSH, IPAF, PASMA, Qualsafe, BSIF, ROSPA, City & Guilds, Window Cleaners Alliance and the Federation of Window Cleaners.

I’m DBS checked, a registered waste carrier, a first aider, mental health first aider and a trained fire warden.

Everything I do is compliant with HSE regulations and the Health & Safety at Work Act.

I’ve also been headhunted by clients for specialist work including a render treatment project in Birmingham, where the client was particular about only hiring someone with proven experience and a spotless reputation.

One of the more memorable highlights of my career was being entrusted with the specialist cleaning of the famous bat enclosure at Chester Zoo. As a member and big fan of the zoo, being invited to take on such a unique project was a genuine honour, a career highlight and a bucket-list achievement. It was the first time the enclosure had ever been cleaned by a specialist and understandably, the team wanted to ensure it was done with absolute care and respect for the environment and its residents!
The conditions were warm, humid, and very atmospheric. Between the complex structure, delicate foliage, limited lighting and tons of cockroaches… it was a demanding space to work! Every surface required precision and patience. Thankfully I had the experience to deliver the results safely and effectively.
Using professional-grade equipment and my knowledge of wildlife-safe cleaning techniques, I selected an entirely organic, citrus-based product (ironically fitting for a fruit bat enclosure!)
The aim was to protect and preserve the guano-stained tarpaulin while achieving a visible, lasting improvement.

When the work was complete, the transformation was remarkable; the difference truly was night and day.
The keepers and Chester Zoo team were thrilled with the outcome and for me, it was an enormous privilege to contribute to the care of such an iconic local institution. The bat cave was hot, smelly and challenging at times but it was also deeply rewarding – A project I’ll always look back on with a smile and real pride.

Giving Back to the Community

I’ve always believed that being part of a community means showing up, pitching in and giving back where you can.

One small act that unexpectedly gained attention was my voluntary road sign cleaning campaign during the COVID-19 lockdown. With the roads quieter than usual, I started cleaning signs around Chester to keep things looking tidy and ended up being featured in local newspapers, Dee radio and got a thank you from the council which was lovely.

I try to continue to stay involved in small meaningful ways:

• Visiting schools and nurseries, letting children try out my job
• Helping local resident associations with plant watering
• Offering free cleans for charities, events and good causes
• Organising and running a fund-raiser for MIND with a huge prize giveaway with lots of other local businesses
• Creating my own colouring book to give out to preschoolers
• Supporting youth through the YMCA and youth training scheme
• Sponsoring Chester FC
• Supporting Chester homeless charity SHARE with donation drives

I’ve always felt lucky to work in a community that supports local business, this is just my way of saying thank you.

Always Learning, Always Improving

I never want to be “just good enough.”

That’s why I’m committed to ongoing training, attending industry conventions and keeping up with the latest advancements in tools, safety and technique. I invest in professional development because I want to offer the best possible service, not just in how things look, but in how they’re done.

When I’m not cleaning..

Outside of work I have a passion for cinema and travel. I’m also a bit of a collector and a kid at heart! I love re-buying toys from my childhood, building Lego and playing video games.

Most importantly, I cherish spending time with my partner Alicia and our four young children – Going on adventures, exploring the outdoors and enjoying fun-filled days out together.
